Update on Vicki – Dec. 9th

Hi Everyone!

Vicki is doing great this morning! Yesterday was a hard day, as is usually expected the day after surgery.

She wasn’t able to keep any food or liquids down yesterday but is doing much better this morning and her appetite is slowly coming back which is awesome news – especially to help with the nausea.

We’ve figured out which medications work the best for her so that has helped quite a bit.

She was moved out of the ICU yesterday afternoon and is in a normal recovery room which allowed her to get more rest last night. She is sleeping the a lot. The surgeon, Dr. Maughan came in again this morning and said she is recovering beautifully and to keep resting and listening to her nurse :) By the way, I don’t know many surgeons that are this amazing with their patients! He came in three or four times yesterday to check on her and didn’t wake her two of the times…I truly think he is an outstanding gentleman.

The Physical Therapist just left a few minutes ago. Vicki is able to do all the exercises pretty well, and was able to sit up, stand up, and walk down the hallway with the walker! Yay! She still feels the vertigo and nausea especially when walking, but the PT seemed very pleased with her progress. She still is experiencing pain with her left eye and ear but the surgeon thinks its because the swelling her brain experienced before, during, and after surgery-and the PT agreed, saying that 3 days after the surgery patients usually experience the worst swelling.

I’ll continue to keep everyone posted on Vicki’s progress. We are in the process of posting a link for anyone who is interested in donating to help with the cost of medical bills and I will let you know when that is up and running.

We love you all and are so grateful for your care and concern for Vicki. She asked me to ask everyone to please keep praying. She is still having a hard time and in a lot of pain after the surgery, but I read her the texts and messages that people are sending to me and the support really helps her stay positive.

xoxo’s from all of us to you :)

I am so sad to find out Vicki was sick. We have been friends since we were 5 and started Kindergarten at Uintah Elementary. Vicki has always been my “rock”. Her life since she was 19 has not been easy. But she has always been tough and able to get through whatever live handed to her. I have always looked up to her for that. I’ve missed Geoffrey and Steven but she has always had wonderful thoughts and prayers for them. She has always been there for me when life got too hard to handle. She was there for me when I lost my own brother. I did not know she was sick. But I did wonder why she had not been returning my messages??? I don’t know anything about what has happened to her. I was devastated when I read your post tonight. I don’t know why any of this had not showed up on my FB. PLEASE give her my love. I am driving between SLC and Emery about every other week to help with my mother who has terminal cancer. I would like to stop by her house sometime ~ but when it’s convenient. I know that recovering from an illness is a lot of work for all concerned; but please keep me informed. Now that I know about the website ~ I will certainly be watching it daily. Again, please give her my love and also from my mom, Helen and my brother, Justin.

    Dear Vicki,
I will definately keep you in my prayers. I attended one of your classes and it was awesome! I regreted to having to leave early, if I hear your having another class I would love to attend. At this time your body is telling you it is time to rest and allow time to recoupe. You are a strong individual and disciplined, so you will be doing great and will be running around and with more vitality than ever. Much Love your way and again my prayers are with you and your family.

    Hi Vicki and Noelle.
Thanks so much for the postings and updates. I totally emphathize with what you are going through Vicki. My brain stem bleed, I totally recovered from with just a tiny bit of triple vision when i turn my head far to the right, but so seldom I hardly even notice. It did take time (six months before I could drive), but I wasn’t raw vegan then. with wheat grass juice and raw food, you will probably recover twice as fast. Will be glad to chat when you feel like it. Would love to visit, but not sure where you are stationed lol. love, Illona. wish we could both go to OHI for a couple of months!
